One of my favourite friends is my sketchbook. I sit with it on my lap, like a pet. Stroking the pages with graphite or colour.
You can either think of it as doodling… or honing your craft. I prefer to think of it as learning by repetition.
Here’s an example of my pencil sketch dog.
This was my first animal sketch. I have since done many more. I can see that it wasn’t perfect, but this one has a special place in my heart because it was my first.
This sketch was done entirely with an HB pencil. Ones I have done since have been started with HB pencil and then ‘added to’ using 2B and 4B pencils to add depth and realism. I could come back and make this one better, but I don’t because it was my first. 🙂
I like to draw animals. I don’t have any pets in my life (at the moment) so drawing animals is my way of bringing them into my home.
