Sketchbook – Daffodil in Watercolour

Daffodil in watercolour | Sandra Burns Art

Last month I took part in an art challenge where you were given a task each day and 10 minutes to complete it. Believe me – 10 minutes goes by in a flash!

This particular day, the challenge was “colours” – to create something with colours that contrast or complement. Sipping my cup of tea and looking around the room for inspiration, it suddenly dawned on me… my tea cup!

Side note: Let me just add that this beautiful teacup is my favourite teacup and was a gift from a dear friend.

I leapt into action. A quick sketch in HB pencil, then grabbed my watercolour paints and added the glory of colour.

I know, I didn’t do a great job with the flower when you compare it to the original, but time was my enemy. And at least you can still tell it’s a daffodil. The likeness is there.

I find I’m drawn to green & gold… despite them being my high school colours… these are the national colours of Australia!

I loved this challenge, and I think I did okay. It’s certainly not going to deter me. Art is waiting to be created.

Thanks for following my art journey!
