My Pelicans in South Perth

Pelicans of South Perth | Sandra Burns Photography

My artwork is largely inspired by my love of nature… whether it be related to water, or animals, or both. Or sometimes flowers.

I’ve always been someone who notices the little things when I’m out and about. The colours of the flowers in my neighbourhood. Spring!

Or the way the colours change with the seasons. Autumn leaves!

OMG… sunsets and sunrises!

I’m so in love with these beautiful Pelicans. But sadly, I won’t be able to get photos like this any more.

Our local Council, bless them, has created an island paradise in the river. A beautiful bird sanctuary. And the birds absolutely love it.

But it means they are too far away to photograph now. Well, too far for my little mobile phone to reach.

I love that the pelicans and swans, and many other birds, have a safe haven where they can hang out and chill… but at the same time I’m sad that I will rarely get the opportunity to get this close to them again.

To me, there is something very special about talking calmly to an animal and building trust so you can get closer and closer and take an amazing photo like the one above.

What do you think? Do you like it?

More often, I’m turning to my photography as inspiration for my art. It helps that I’ve always had a good eye for taking photographs. I get that from my Dad. ๐Ÿ™‚

Keep a look out this week as I will be sharing more photos and paintings.

  1. Awwww, so sad you won’t be able to get more shots like this one Sandra, but I am so happy to hear that your local council has created an island paradise in the river to protect them! ๐Ÿฆฉ You’re resourceful and I know you will find a way to get more spectacular shots! ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผโœจ
