What a fabulous quote. I feel this to the core.
“He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
Cheers to all my fellow artists, whether it be visual art, music, or performance.

As much as I love this quote, apparently it is not correctly attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi as it has not been located in his writings.
1948: Louis Nizer, and American lawyer, has been cited as the author.
1923: Etymologist Barry Popik – “He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his brain is an artisan. He who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist.” (artisan, not craftsman)
1916: American Falls ID Press, no authorship cited – “He who works with his hands is a laborer; he who works with his head and his hands is an artizen; he who works with his head, hand and heart is an artist.” (simpler wording)
That’s the extent of my research. And I love the quote, whoever said it.
