NEW BEGINNINGS ARTWORK

Today is a day for new beginnings to health and wellness. Turn and step in a new direction.

Inspired by a desire for change and a need to move on. This new beginnings artwork features a female subject, turning around and taking a step away from where she was. Each part of the movement is represented by different colours as she shifts weight from her left foot to her right.

New Beginnings Artwork

First, a pencil sketch of someone turning around – showing four steps of the turn and weight-shift. I then traced the image onto fresh paper. After marking the outlines with ink pen and allowing to dry, each section was individually filled with water and drips of coloured ink, again waiting for each colour to dry before moving on to the next. I love the way the blue ink mixed with the water to form intricate swirls. Once everything was dry, I added shading and contours with wax pencils. I love the end result.

The idea behind this exercise was to show movement on the page – the simple steps of someone turning around.

Avoiding the traditional symbols for new beginnings artwork (plants, flowers, animals), I chose to represent new beginnings with an image of someone turning around and stepping away.

Walking away in a dream means you are trying to distance yourself from someone or something that is unhelpful. Assess the situation, and ensure it benefits your well-being and goals.

My favourite part of this painting is the middle face, shown in green and yellow. 💖
