Pelicans have stolen my heart – those glorious gawky guardians of the riverside.
Now that I call South Perth home, I’m lucky enough to see them almost daily. Just a ten-minute wander from my doorstep leads me to their watery realm, where they glide like feathered boats or loiter like old friends with nowhere urgent to be.
And if you glance up at Canning Bridge, you might spot one (or more!) perched proudly atop a streetlight, surveying the world like a slightly confused king.
Honestly, how could I not adore these big, beaky eccentrics?
