My current project is an Australian Pelican in acrylic paints.
I’ve been suffering from artist’s block on my pelican painting.
I went ahead with some of the darker white areas, but it dried way too dark. So I painted over it with white again.
Since that episode, I’ve kind of lost my groove on this one.

I love the colours, the composition, the close-ness… but I’m just not making it happen.
I either need to put it aside for a while and come back to it later, or just get back into it and push through. My poor pelican has been staring at me for weeks!
This pelican has also been the subject of two sketchbook projects: Watercolour Pelican and The Pelican.
Have a great weekend!

Nice work, I’ll check out your other pelicans too.
I feel such a fool Sandra as you always comment on my artworks with such encouragement and compliments but never post many blogs yourself.
Then I realised I wasn’t following you. I feel such an idiot, but now I am, still an idiot but also following you now

Thank you so much. I’ve been working on a business course, hoping to get back into art real soon. Have a great day!

Thanks Kit. I decided to put the pelican aside and come back to it after completing something different. Stay tuned… the pelican will be back!

I’m having a similar problem with a family of penguins at the moment! Hopefully I’ll push forward with it later today (or not)!

Jo, I decided to move onto something else and come back the pelican later. I’m glad I did because the one I’m working on now has an animal in similar whites and this one is working. So now I feel brave enough to tackle the pelican again afterwards. 🙂

Oh that’s great! It sounds like you made a really good choice! I pushed on with the penguins and they are now finished. I think, for me, I just needed to get my head down and work at it. 🙂

I don’t know, I rather like your Pelican, he just needs some personality. He looks lonely and sad.

I rather like him too. He needs lots more – yes, including personality. I’m hoping he won’t be so sad when I finish. Thanks for the encouragement. 🙂
