This is a repurposed previous sketch – a pencil drawing of one of my classmates.
After the pencil sketch, I traced the main lights & darks of the drawing in black ink pen.
Then the tricky part of cutting out strategic parts of the image.
Creating the background colour was a simple task of rubbing wax crayon over a piece of paper resting on a textured surface.
Then I simply positioned the ‘relief cut-out’ over the coloured background… and voila!
I tried the stripes on different angles, but I felt vertical worked the best. 🎨🙂

My only problem with this sketchbook work is, after a considerable number of years, the glue from the tape (to hold the background in place) has bled through the thin foreground paper.
Learn from experience, hey!

Love this sketch, Sandra. 🤗 You know, don’t worry about the tape. Sometimes those little unexpected hiccups can turn out to be wonderful character highlights! ✍🏼🎨✏️
