ANZAC Day 25th April 2023

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

I took this photo last week at the State War Memorial at Kings Park in Perth. This beautiful memorial comprises of the Cenotaph (an 18 metre granite obelisk that honours all Western Australians who gave their lives in the service of their country), the Pool of Reflection and the Flame of Remembrance (which burns continuously), and the Court of Contemplation which encircles the Pool and Flame and offers a place to sit and pay respects.

The memorial sits proudly in Kings Park, overlooking the city of Perth (off-screen, to the left) and the magnificent Swan River.

This morning, this site hosts the main ANZAC Day Dawn Service in Perth. I say ‘main’ because many local councils and RSL’s in Perth host their own services to commemorate our ancestors. ANZAC Day ceremonies will be held all over Australia and New Zealand.

Lest we forget.
